Philip Böttger
9-11 september | TETEM Kunstruimte
ArtEZ Academy, Enschede
"At first glance (sight) viewers are captivated by Philip Böttger’s technologically advanced inventions. Examples for this are his self acting touch typing fingers, which generate as if by a ghost’s hand a text on a typewriter or his large scale installation “Kreuz”.The large metal cross incorporates a wheel of fortune equipped with religious icons (symbols). The wheel spins accompanied by lighting effects and God’s hand chooses one of the existing religions.
What seems to be merely attractive and fascinating on the outside at first sight, proves to be a complex philosophical approach to questions which move the artist. The spotlight is focussed mainly on the naïve and uneducated use of present technologies."
